In “The Midnight Romance in Hagwon,” Wi Ha-Joon and Jung Rye-Won meet again at the academy.
In Episode 1 of the drama “The Midnight Romance in Hagwon,” which premiered on the afternoon of the 11th, a 14-year veteran star tutor Seo Hye-Jin (Jung Ryeo Won), and Lee Joon Ho (Wee Ha Joon) met again after a while.
Seo Hye-Jin is a star tutor in Daechi-dong. She has a busy day as a tutor whose reputation is such that parents ask her to tutor them separately.
One day, a problem arose at Chan-Young High School: the answer to question 11 on the midterm exam was duplicated.
At the request of the students and their parents, Seo Hye-Jin went to the teacher’s office to confront the teacher, Mr Pyo Sang-Sub (played by Kim Song-Il).
“I’m not asking how the question was written, I’m asking if other teachers interpreted it that way,” she said, adding that she wanted to have a healthy discussion about the question and requested a retest.
After the school was inundated with protest calls, Pyo agreed to take the test again, but he couldn’t let go of his pride and continued to lash out at Seo Hye-Jin until the end.
Despite her anger, Seo Hye-Jin swallowed it and returned to the academy.
As she was mulling over her anger, she came face to face with Lee Joon-Ho, who had stopped by the academy after work.
“Wow, what’s going on? I was just thinking about you. I’m so glad to see you. It’s been a while, what’s going on?” and greeted him enthusiastically.
Lee Joon-Ho replied, “I was just passing by. You are more welcoming than I thought,” and Seo Hye-Jin recalled Lee Joon-Ho’s success in getting into a prestigious university and said, “That was a highlight of my life. You should call me.” And on her mobile phone screen, Lee Joon-Ho’s name was “My Pride.”
The academy held an examination to select new instructors. Seo Hye-Jin spotted Lee Joon-Ho sitting among those taking the test and was surprised. “I’m looking for a job,” he explained. “I gave my resignation from my job,” he said.
The two went to a restaurant and Lee Joon-Ho explained the decision to Seo Hye-Jin by saying, “You trained me to be a person who knows how to study, so don’t worry about that. I’ll make it one more time. Ms. Seo, I’ll create another highlight in your life for you,” and showed confidence.
In response, Seo Hye-Jin started stating various problems with the job of a tutor even adding, “You don’t get to date anyone, either,” to which Lee Joon-Ho replied more confidently, “That’s one thing… I can manage myself.”
As they walked out of the bar, Lee Joon-Ho said to Seo Hye-Jin, who was walking with him under an umbrella, “Call me ‘Teacher,’ I’ll feel better if you do,” and smiled. The unexpected remark made Seo Hye-Jin feel embarrassed.
