KBS 2TV’s new Korean drama “The Matchmakers,” which will premiere on the 30th of this month, is a comic matchmaking drama in which a young widower and a young widow meet and try to get elderly widows and an elderly bachelors married in the Joseon Dynasty.
Shim Jung Woo (Rowoon), a young widower who became the youngest person to pass the state civil service examination, and Jung Soon Deok (Cho Yi Hyun), a young widow with a double life, join forces to present “The Matchmakers.”
Cho Yi Hyun will showcase her amazing acting skills in “The Matchmakers,” heralding the birth of a fresh sageuk heroine who will captivate young and old alike.
Cho Yi Hyun plays the role of Jung Soon Deok, who is officially the second daughter-in-law of Jwa Eui Jeong, but unofficially lives a double life as the mistress of the best matchmaker in Hanyang.
As Jung Soon Deok, Cho Yi Hyun exudes a variety of charms, from her laugh-out-loud hilarity to her mysteriousness.
In “The Matchmakers,” Cho Yi Hyun steals the show with her first appearance as Jung Soon Deok, the second daughter-in-law of Jwa Eui Jeong.
In the drama, Jung Soon Deok (Cho Yi Hyun) wears a jade, ivory, and light blue jacket and skirt, which are subtle and warm colours, unlike the matriarch’s outfit, which is made up of vivid primary colours such as green jacket and purple skirt, to show off the sweetness of the second daughter-in-law.
In addition, Jung Soon Deok wears an apron and smiles as she works in the kitchen and among the readers, exuding the force of housework. We can’t wait to see how Cho Yi Hyun will portray the transformation of Jung Soon Deok, who leads a dizzying double life, being a cheerful and active character on the outside, but somewhat reversed on the inside.
On the other hand, Yi Hyun was able to exude her lovely charm in the scene where she captures the innocent beauty. As the second daughter-in-law of the head of the family, Yi Hyun shows a mild and gentle expression and tone of voice, taking a break from the intense charisma of her role as the matriarch, and portraying a clear 180-degree difference.
Furthermore, Cho Yi Hyun’s cheerful smile and energetic behaviour throughout the filming made the scene feel warm and welcoming.
The production team commented, “Cho Yi Hyun is an actress whose mysterious pace and sincere performance, which is both warm and cold at the same time, creates an immersive atmosphere,” and added, “Please support ‘The Matchmakers,’ where Yi Hyun will burst out with a sunshine-like smile that will disarm the viewers and a charm that has never been seen before.”
KBS’ new K-drama “The Matchmakers” premieres on Monday, 30 October at 9:45pm.
