On the morning of the 5th, Song Kang talked about various things during an interview for the Netflix original series ‘Sweet Home’ Season 2 in Seoul.
“Sweet Home” Season 2 follows Hyun-soo (Song Kang) and the survivors as they struggle to survive in their new home after leaving Green Home in a world where desire becomes a monster, as well as the appearance of another being and a mysterious phenomenon.
Song Kang plays Cha Hyun-soo, a specially infected person with monster wings.
In season 2, Cha Hyun-soo is ready to make a sacrifice and voluntarily participates in an experiment as a special infected person. There, he is tested for aggression, covered in blood with nothing on, and undergoes several crises that show his maturation.
Song Kang’s backside was exposed in the drama, which made a big splash. In response, Song Kang said, “I had a lot of dialogue with the director. Hyun-soo is a monster human, not a human being, but an object of observation. I took off my clothes with the intention of observing every single part of his body.”
The part where he gets blood was particularly difficult to CG. “(The exposure scene) was done in the first take. “I think I lost a lot of my shyness after shooting this. That’s a good thing, too. I feel more confident,” he smiles.
Song Kang’s popularity has garnered his so much attention that his name appears in related search terms. However, Song Kang was unsure of the response, asking, “Is there a reaction?” he asked.
“After filming that scene as Hyunsoo, I feel much more confident in the dramas I’ve appeared in. Before that, I used to be embarrassed if there were any racy lines,” Song Kang said.
“Hyun-soo is a student, but he’s turned into a monster, so I thought of it as a concept where his body has already been shaped to a certain extent,” Song Kang said, adding that it was easy for his to stay in shape because he’s always loved working out.
Whenever I go to the province, the first thing I do is find a gym. If I have good equipment, I’m happy. Even in season one, I was taking off a lot of clothes. This time, I didn’t want to be completely skinny, but I wanted to eat as much as possible because I felt like a monster. I worked really hard, going to the gym twice a day,” he says, revealing his enjoyment of the process.
Song Kang is no stranger to playing non-human beings and taking on unconventional roles.
“I’m an adventurous person,” he says. I want to play new and unconventional characters, and that’s how I came up with my projects. It’s always fun to do something new,” he says, his eyes shining.
“For “My Demon,” I lost 10kg. “For “My Demon,” I lost 10 kilograms, and I was down to 64 kilograms, but I couldn’t eat carbohydrates and my head wouldn’t work, so I kept my carbohydrates in moderation, and I was happy with the result because I was thin,” he says, adding, “For “Sweet Home,” I gained 10 kilograms and was 74 kilograms. I’m now in between the two projects,” he said, revealing that he is looking forward to continuing his acting transformation.
Meanwhile, “Sweet Home” Season 2 premiered on 1 December 2023.
