New K-Dramas Buried Hearts and Undercover High School Kick Off with Strong Premieres

Two highly anticipated dramas, Buried Hearts and Undercover High School, premiered on February 21, competing in the same time slot and both garnering promising viewership ratings. According to Nielsen Korea, SBS’s Buried Hearts recorded an average nationwide rating of 6.1% for its debut episode, while MBC’s Undercover High School closely followed with 5.6%.

Buried Hearts is a suspense thriller centered around a high-stakes financial crime. The story follows a man who successfully hacks into a political slush fund account worth 2 trillion won (approximately $1.4 billion). However, another man, unaware of the hack, kills him, unintentionally erasing access to the entire fortune. Park Hyung Sik takes on the role of Seo Dong Joo, the leader of the Public Affairs team for the powerful Daesan Group’s chairman, setting the stage for a gripping and intense drama.

On the other hand, Undercover High School offers a mix of comedy, action, and intrigue. The drama follows a top National Intelligence Service (NIS) field agent, Jung Hae Sung (played by Seo Kang Jun), who is sent undercover as a high school student at Byeongmun High School. His mission is to track down Emperor Gojong’s missing gold, leading to a unique and entertaining blend of espionage and high school life.

With both dramas drawing strong initial viewership, it remains to be seen how their ratings and audience reception will develop in the coming weeks.
