On the 6th, tvN’s upcoming Kdrama “Saejak, The Enchanted” (directed by Cho Nam Guk, written by Kim Sung Deok) announced its premiere date.
“Saejak, The Enchanted” will premiere on 21 January 2024 at 9:20 pm. The first two episodes will air continously.
“Sejak” is a melodramatic historical drama that depicts the cruel fate of King Yi Yin (played by Jo Jung Seok), a high ranking but lowly king, and Kang Hee Soo (played by Shin Se Kyung), who dreams of revenge against him but falls for him.
Starring Jo Jung-seok and Shin Se-kyung, “Sejak” will compete with KBS 2TV’s “Goryeo-Khitan War” and “Knight Flower.”
On Saturdays and Sundays, the weekend competition is fierce. At 9pm, KBS and tvN are competing with dramas.
In particular, KBS 2TV’s epic drama “Goryeo-Khitan War,” starring Kim Dong Joon and Choi Soo Jong, is slowly gaining ground on its rivals. Since its first broadcast on 11 November, ‘Goryeo-Khitan War’ has shown a steady increase in viewership.
The first episode recorded 5.5% (Nielsen Korea National Ratings), followed by 8.4% (episode 7) on 2 December. Then, on December 3, the viewership dropped slightly to 7.9% for the 8th episode, but it is expanding its power.
“Goryeo-Khitan War” has also shown the ability to catch its competitor tvN’s Saturday drama “Castaway Diva” in the same time slot. On December 3, “Castaway Diva” recorded a 9.0% viewership rate, and although it lost the competition for viewership, it is establishing itself as a powerhouse in the weekend home tv space.
In the midst of this, “Saejak” will be joining the ratings war with “Goryeo-Khitan War” after “Maestra.”
The fact that “Saejak” is a ‘melodramatic sageuk’ increases the viewers’ desire to watch it. Jo Jung-seok, Shin Se-kyung, Lee Shin-young, Park Ye-young, Son Hyun-joo, Cho Sung-ha, Jang Young-nam, and many other colourful actors appear.
Among them, Jo Jung-seok and Shin Se-kyung’s portrayal of a king and a sejak in a “brutal melodrama” is intriguing.
